NEKTAR

For over 50 years, Nektar has taken their fans on epic audiovisual adventures to the edges of the universe and the depths of the ocean, with their immersive blend of imagery and sound.

Nektar is one of the most unique and captivating progressive rock bands to grace the music scene of the 1970s. Originally from Germany, but mostly English, and currently based in the United States (!), the Nektar quintet originally consisted of Roye Albrighton, Derek “Mo” Moore, Ron Howden, Klaus Hecht, and Mick Brockett.

Formed in 1969 in Hamburg, Nektar began their journey experimenting with a hybrid sound, the result of a meeting of progressive rock, psychedelia, and science fiction. Their debut album, “Journey to the Center of the Eye” (1971), was a true revelation, immediately demonstrating their extraordinary artistic vision.

Albums like “A Tab in the Ocean” (1972) and “Remember the Future” (1973) cemented the band’s reputation, demonstrating an astonishing ability to blend progressive rock, psychedelia, and a hard rock attitude. Cosmic, metaphysical, and visionary themes intertwined with extraordinary musical virtuosity, creating sound worlds that transcended the confines of conventional rock.

Despite limited commercial success, Nektar quickly became one of the cult bands of the progressive rock scene.

Their ability to create complex and engaging concept albums, combined with an innovative and distinctive sound, made them one of the most original and influential voices in the genre. Artists like Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater acknowledge Nektar’s influence in their own work.

After several lineup changes and a brief dissolution in the 1980s, Nektar returned to performing and recording new material, demonstrating their inexhaustible creativity in blending progressive rock, science fiction, and introspective journeys.
