Alex Henry Foster

Alex Henry Foster is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, producer, and composer, former frontman of the Juno-nominated post-rock/noise band Your Favorite Enemies (YFE).

With his band, The Long Shadows, he creates intense, passionate music with emotional lyrics.

The music is difficult to define. It’s a mix of dynamic post-rock, alternative indie-rock, and stunning soundscapes and vocals.

Live, the band truly shines. The six musicians know how to create an immersive experience for their audiences.

The musicians’ joy in playing is authentic and touching, practically captivating, and leaves anyone who sees the band speechless.

Here are some comments on his music:

“Swans, Radiohead, or Nick Cave? What if we could combine the results of their sounds? Then we’d have Alex Henry Foster.” – Radio Trojka (PL)

“Sonic Youth meets Slint at a party hosted by Mogwai” – Silent Radio (UK)

The band is currently working on a new album. Due for release in the fall of 2025.

After their 2018 debut album, “Windows in the Sky,” the band performed to a sold-out crowd at the 2019 Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, which led to the release of a live album, Standing Under Bright Lights, in 2021, which helped them reach the top spots on the international album charts: #1 in Canada, #6 in Australia, and #32 in the UK.

In early 2020, they toured Europe with The Trail of Dead’s …And You Will Know Us before the pandemic hit. In late 2021, they accompanied The Pineapple Thief on their European tour.

Alex then decided to work on a beautiful Japanese film and a soundtrack titled Voyage à la Mer. The first album, Kimiyo, was created in collaboration with the talented Japanese-Canadian artist Momoka, who translated Alex’s lyrics into Japanese and lent her voice to the project, and his longtime creative partner Ben Lemelin, who wrote the music to accompany all these lyrics. Released in April 2024, the album reached the Billboard Top 10. The project’s second album, “A Measure of Shape and Sounds,” is instrumental and was released on September 20, 2024, also charting.

On the live front, in 2024, Alex Henry Foster headlined numerous European summer festivals and several club concerts for 10 weeks, staying in Cologne and traveling primarily on weekends.
