RED SAND

RED SAND, a Quebec, Canada-based progressive rock band active since 2004, is comprised of guitarist Simon Caron, a self-proclaimed David Gilmour fan, Andy Latimer, Steven Rothery, IQ, BB King, and Albert Collins.

They released their first album, “Mirror of Insanity,” in 2004, followed by “Gentry” the following year. They were also named “Best Discovery Band” by Metal Hammer in 2004.What’s striking is how “early Marillion” the band sounds without imitating them. The songwriting style, the pauses and atmospheres, the Rothery-esque guitar sound, and the Nolan-esque keyboard forays contribute to this impression—even the album cover bears that early Marillion touch; yet, for some reason, it all sounds very RED SAND. Well-produced and expertly crafted, their music flows naturally, and the themes blend into one another with remarkable ease. The lyrics never sound forced or imitative.

The band offers first-rate neo-prog that exudes charm, sophistication, and professionalism.
